Remember, Man, That You Are Dust…
…and unto dust you shall return.
As many of my followers know, I have a love-hate relationship with my Italian-Catholic background. I am in utter existential turmoil over my feelings about Lent and Easter.
Kind of.
I do not identify as Catholic anymore. I probably can’t even really say that I identify as Christian. But I do have a hell of a lot of respect for the man who was Jesus Christ. I don’t know/care whether or not he was the Son of God, or whether or not his dying actually freed us from sin. What’s important is that he really, truly believed that he was doing something that would help other people. He was selfless. Or so the story goes. I’m sure there’s more to it than that.
All that being said, I love the Easter season and the surrounding celebrations/fasts/whatever. I usually forget to give something up for Lent, but this year, well…my Div III has gotten to a point where I don’t have a choice - I need to give up stress, and work on being more productive. And that’s my goal.
I don’t mind utilizing ancient Christian fasts to meet my own needs. =P
